We had a major milestone on Monday – my girl passed her grade 8 Piano exam ! I’m proud of her courage to do it wks before JC prelim this wk. In my mind, appreciating music doesn’t need ability to play an instrument n definitely no need for piano exam. When I started my girls on piano lessons at 5, it was learning a skill n they shd be accountable for the process. This little one had many disruptions - training for competitive chess to rep sch/Sgp till P5, journey to get highest Brownie award n PSLE in P6 , mths of prep to win President’s Guide Award in Sec 4 (we got to b at Istana w President !!)n O levels, then JC council activities. I’m not bragging lah but I was v conscious of time-sensitive opportunities/challenges n choices she had to make. According to std schedule, she passed grade 8 abt 3 yrs behind time. I’m glad we adjusted schedule according to various seasons of her learning journey in sch/CCA. Really blessed by her piano teacher that didn’t pressure her to score so that it looked well on teacher’s record n willing to adjust to her disruptive schedule. Glad that my girl finds joy in using her skill to play in church youth worship band. She is so happy to pass this final exam n we r proud of her perseverance. I know she will continue to see purpose of this training n skill that she has been blessed with.
