We had a reply from Goodlife! What do you all think? Hi Kylie and Laura, A little history to start off with, Goodlife is a small privately owned business employing just short of 100 people. We have been making vegetarian products (including dairy) since 1989, and have been pretty successful over the past 25 years. Some of the products such as the spicy bean burger and nut cutlet have been dairy free throughout this time, but most of our products have not. I think its important to say that we havent always stated our products are all vegan, it is a relatively recent change in our history since we made our products dairy free. About three years ago, we went out and talked to a number of vegan groups and they raised that we should make all our products vegan because as you mention vegetarians can eat vegan food. We did listen to the feedback and turned our range dairy free under the create a goodlife brand. We took cheese out of our Glamorgan Sausage and created a dairy free cheese. Following this we took our products on roadshows visiting VegFest and vegan groups over the last three years. Since moving to products that are dairy free, despite promoting the brand we have seen a decline in the rate of sale of the products. We are a commercial business and we needed to understand why this was happening and make appropriate changes to make our business sustainable. This decision was not made lightly and a great deal of thought was put into the decision to change our range to offer both vegetarian and vegan products. We do understand that this decision hasnt been popular with everybody, but our heritage is in vegetarian as well as dairy free food and we dont think its a compromise in our values.
