We had dinner with my athiest Uncle last week who has had a history of bashing my Mormon faith. Despite my efforts in helping him in his old age, he tends to keep picking radical doctrine fights with me. He was recently put on hospice and his doctor told me he has about 6 months to live. On the way home from the restaurant his girlfriend and I were having a religious discussion about the after life and my direct experience with it. He said from the back seat, Religion is a fairy tale! God was invented by man for political power and control! After dropping off my uncle I arrived home later that evening to find I had a thrashing of anti religious rants in an email from him. He sent my YouTube videos and facts from scientists. He just kept going on with these emails for days. Then he sent me a video about how Religion is a Fairy Tale. I finally decided to jump in and put him to silence. My remarks were to the point. If religion is a fairy tale then there is nothing to worry about no matter what. If God does not exist then God does not exist. If there is no purpose to our existence then what difference does it make? My knowledge of any fact, physics, science, math, language or other skills would mean nothing because once I stop breathing it stops for me. Our whole existence will be for naught. Our schooling means nothing . All we need to worry about its food, drink and a roof over our heads if at that. So I beg to differ that I believe in something that will happen after this life and you do not. Who cares how I worship? That is my point. To call me naive, blind and deaf when you do not believe in the hereafter yourself gives you no credit to judge religious beliefs. You dont believe in religion. You dont follow a religion. So how can you judge one from another? You can try to push numbers and other facts but so can I. Religion is based on faith in something you cannot see. That is the test in this life. We have a right to believe how we want. Some many religions differ more then colors of the rainbow. Even scientists disagree with each other. This Just proves man is not perfect in science either. The point here is that there were religions setup for control and political power over their people. That is a breach from what is good in people and their right to believe in a supreme being. Religion can be a wonderful thing. To many, God exists even if its by a different name depending on the religion. Religion helps us have hope. Id rather be happy in hope then miserable in lack of it.
