We had our first disbudding disaster over the weekend. We had a group of doelings that were pretty small and we ended up putting off disbudding them way too long. When Greg disbudded they looked pretty good. However it wasnt long and we had a couple of bleeders. Got them stopped and all was well. Saturday morning went out to milk I heard one of the kids cry looked in the pen to see Carrie a bloody mess. Got her cleaned up put some blood stop on her thought all was well. She wanted nothing to do with her bottle. So I sat her down and watched her. She would let a cry every once in a while. Then she tried to pee and nothing came out. She was shaking some so Greg scooped her up and headed to the vets to catch them as they opened. Her temp was 99 and she was really dehydrated. The vet couldnt get IV in so they ended up giving fluids subQ. Brought her home with an IV bag thought I was going to miss Megans graduation. Gave her about 40 ccs more at the house before we had to leave. It wasnt long and we watched her pee and take the bottle. Now she is good as new. The vet said her kidneys were already starting to shut down. I am so thankful for Dr. Chapman and his staff for saving our girl. I just hadnt thought about her being so dehydrated.
