We had the PAP Commemoration event last night at the Victoria - TopicsExpress

We had the PAP Commemoration event last night at the Victoria Memorial Hall. Many of the PAP pioneer MPs were also there to celebrate with us. It was the same Hall where years ago, Mr Lee Kuan Yew had made his fiery, inspiring speeches. How times have changed! In just one generation, we have seen tremendous progress. There was a time in the 60s when I lived in government quarters. Many families had to share one communal toilet and there was no piped water in the house. When my married sister moved to a HDB flat and I went to live with her, it took me fifteen minutes to walk to the nearest bus stop to go to school. How times have changed! A whole generation has grown up not knowing the past or the battles that Singapore and Singaporeans had fought not only to achieve our independence but to survive and prosper as we have done over the last fifty years. Nothing took place by chance. Everything was planned and strategically thought through by a forward looking and progressive leadership supported by a hardworking and disciplined people. So, the effort at looking back last night, with the PAP 60 book launch, was really useful to give us the context of our present achievements and remind us of the principles and values that underpin it which remain valid and relevant for us to sustain our development.
