We captured just a small sample of what youll experience when you arrive! For more info on the event read below! Last year more than 29,000 people stepped back centuries in time to experience life the night Christmas began.Tens of thousands expected to step back in time to experience the first Christmas Savannah Christian Church is producing The Journey for the 11th time this year. The outdoor, interactive drama authentically recreates the ancient town of Bethlehem and the cave-like stable where Jesus was born. Last year the church rebuilt Bethlehem, complete with jewelry, spice and basket shops, a fishery, bakery, an inn, a blacksmith and mill. Middle Eastern experts worked with volunteer builders to insure the walled city – with massive entry gates – was recreated in an authentic way. Hundreds of costumed actors will fill the town during the production. “We want to give people a chance to step back in time 2,000 years and experience the miraculous birth of Jesus,” said Wayne Sullivan, the church’s drama pastor. The Journey is a two-part experience. Visitors first enjoy an indoor concert of Christmas music. They then go outside and join a group traveling back to their hometown of Bethlehem to be counted and taxed. They cross the Sea of Galilee by boat. They encounter wise men following a star, their camels tied up outside an opulent red velvet tent. They arrive at a palace guarded by tigers where evil King Herod is pacing and plotting. Visitors then travel through Bethlehem, where the inn keeper tells them his rooms are filled. Leaving the town, they come upon shepherds, who are startled by an angel proclaiming the birth of a King. Visitors follow the shepherds to find Mary, Joseph and a baby. The Journey Enter between 5 and 8 p.m. Wednesday – Sunday, Dec. 3-7 and 10-14 Savannah Christian Church 55 Al Henderson Blvd. Savannah, GA 31419 SavannahChristian For more information, contact Esther Griffin at 912-629-4762.
