We had to leave the city in 2 days notice and quite naturally I forgot to put a number of important stuffs in the luggage. One of these is the novel I was reading back home (The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni - I love people who gift books on wedding. Only the sad part is, I cant remember who gifted me this one :P). Its been 5 months since I last had my hand on ANY non-academic book. E-books are not my type because I hate not having that smell of the pages while reading it. The city we live in now has almost no English book available, thanks to their indisputable love for the national language. And this is when both Sayantani and Panchali nominate me to list my the books that influenced me. You girls are the worst or what? :-/ I cant really make a list of inspiring books because I every time I end up falling in love with the writing, instead of getting influenced. So here I am making a list of 10 books I loved, not necessarily in the following order. 1. Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami 2. My Years with Apu: A Memoir - Satyajit Ray 3. Eleven Minutes - Paulo Coelho 4. One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel García Márquez 5. Second Thoughts - Shobha Dey 6. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë 7. Love - Toni Morisson 8. Aranyak - Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay 9. Na Hanyate - Maitreyi Devi 10. Dwitiyo Adwitiyo - Ashapurna Devi And I nominate Aditi Laha, Rumela Lahiri, Avirup Mukherjee and Ananya Mazumdar to share their list. :)
