We have a newly scheduled SOC 4540 class for Summer II (CRN #31987). This is a core class for our criminal justice majors but it serves as an elective in many others. In many ways its a complimentary class to SOC: 4120 (Child Abuse), when approached through the lens of child welfare and life course. My pedogigcal approach is similar as well. Heres the course description: Catalog: A study of juvenile delinquency as a social problem. Extent, causative factors, methods of treatment, and programs of prevention and control are covered. When feasible, students visit community programs. My Appendum: This course is directed toward advanced undergraduate students. It will offer an overview of the criminological theories regarding juvenile offending as well as the workings of the juvenile justice system. Attention will be given to the history, development, and roles of current theoretical positions and practices. Expect a blend of lecture, discussions, exercises, speakers, videos, and even a field trip. You are required to complete in-class exams and application-based assignments. Interested students are very welcome to contact me for more information ([email protected]) or 387-5276, Dr. Angie Moe.
