We have a peculiar situation in New Zealand. Ive noticed from my news feed that many people on the left are de-friending National supporters on facebook. At the same time a number of people on the left are also de-friending me. Many people who have paid attention to my feed will know that i have been debating staunch National supporter Jens Mueller. I actually take it as a privilege to be able to debate one of the more intelligent people on the New Zealand right. There are reasons for the lefts poor performance which extend beyond the corrupt media and the ignorance of the public. By de-friending national supporters or me you will not increase the chance of the left winning the next election. You only only re-enforce the bubble which the left is obviously living in. The left coalition is not even close to challenging National. The way things currently stand I would be very surprised if Key doesnt win a fourth term. If people on the left are serious about building a coalition that can eventually take power, they should not be afraid to put their ideas to the test and communicate with other people who do not agree with them. While I oppose almost all of Jens positions, I actually respect him a lot more than most voters on left. Notice that he doesnt try and point out typos in my posts or personally dismiss me. He sticks to the substance of my arguments. The left cannot accept people of the left with radical or extreme views. Those who could potentially be part of a coalition must either conform the lefts standard view or be excluded. I spent years in New Zealand being politically active and was largely ignored. I still voted this election but with a lack on enthusiasm. So left New Zealand, thankfully, and life has really started to become quite wonderful. If the New Zealand left wishes to continue to ignore me and others with different views, and is afraid to engage with different perspectives. then get ready for another six years of John Key.
