We have access to machines that can show us the baby moving and growing inside the mothers womb. Illnesses that 25 years ago were fatal are now curable through technology, machines, education & medicines. We carry mega-computers in our pockets. Are we filled with gratitude & wonder? Not really. We fly through the air and complain about the food, the delays and the children. Did we learn anything from the wanderers in the wilderness? Not really. Days pass and years vanish, and we walk sightless among miracles. (From a Sabbath prayer) In the clip below, Louis C.K. appeared on “Conan” to vent about how the everyone is spoiled because we have all this technology and don’t appreciate it. It was the worst day of my life! First of all we didn’t board for 20 minutes. And then we got on the plane and they made us sit there on the runway for 40 minutes. We had to sit there. Oh really, what happened next, did you fly through the air incredibly, like a bird?... You’re flying! It’s amazing! Everybody on every plane should be constantly going ‘oh my God, wow!’ Yes. Youre flying! Youre sitting in a chair, in the sky! We get to live in an incredibly complex & exciting world filled with abundance, with wonder and miracles. How wondrous is the world in which we live. How generous and awe-inspiring is our God. Electricity, hospitals, clean water, clean air, education, food, technology, medicine are gifts in which we partake but in which we contributed nothing. All that we have are gifts from God...yet we imagine that we earned them, we deserve them, and that we own them. We whine, we hoard, and we abuse...yet our Gods generosity is limitless. Give us this day our daily bread.... Thanks be to God.
