We have always looked at ourselves as normal. We the majority of the world is like us. We dont realize that 90% of the people on earth are dirt poor and we actually belong to the top 10%. we are the ones referred to by Jesus, that it is harder to a rich man to enter the kingdom than for a camel to enter the eye of a needle. Americans think they are poor and complain constantly about how hard life is in America but all of them belong to the top 1% of the wealthiest on the planet. We also make the 90% think that this status quo now is normal and it is they who are abnormal. so the poor mistreat the poor also because they are poor. But God sees normal from his vantage point of justice and equality and 10% owning 90% of the wealth of this world is definitely no normal, it is indecent. Christians looking down from power and wealth defines the problem as poverty but the Bible says it is greed. When we say it is poverty, we put the pressure on the poor to change, we impose on them all kinds of burden, to improve, to shape up, to work better, to have better work ethics, to save, etc. But if we say the problem is greed, then we put the pressure on the rich. If we use percentage as the measure, certainly the poor give more than the rich. The rich dont even give 5% of their wealth. If we think this way, that we are normal, that the problem is poverty instead of greed, we will never be able to preach the gospel. the gospel of the kingdom says, he who gathered much did not have too much and he who gathered little did not lack anything. What we preach is the gospel of heaven, to accept Jesus as Lord, wait till we die and then go to heaven, damn the earth and the poor. God has no bias for the poor, he is greatly biased towards justice. And in this justice, God uses the poor as his plumb line. The way we treat the poor authenticates our spirituality. Our worship, quiet time, prayers, holiness are all useless if we dont treat the poor well. the plumb line of God in the Old Testament were the almana ger yatom, widows aliens and orphans. ger today refers to the illegal migrants, who brace cruel inhuman conditions to travel miles to america to get a job. these migrants the Americans hate so much. these are the ger of the bible.
