We have been in Southeastern Massachusetts recently, and friends asked me what I was doing. When I told them I was redecorating two bedrooms in our 253-year-old farmhouse they shook their heads. It kind of irritated me! And today ... as I am staining some of my 2,000 linear feet of bead board planks that Im using to make one of those bedrooms look like a summer camp-style place to lay ones head I thought, How is my retirement hobby ... such as redecorating my home and building a 2-1/2-story barn, a porch, and a gazebo ... any different from other old folks hobbies? How is it any different from oil or watercolor painting? Granted my brushes are 2-1/2 to 3 inches wide, I use saws and drills, my palettes are cans of paint and stain, and my canvas is three-dimensional ... but to me it is still a form of art. Hopefully, Ill remember these words when the next heads are shaken! Just remember ... my younger Facebook Friends ... that your own retirement activities can be as eclectic and weird as you want them to be. You will be off the time clock for activities planned by others ... if you so desire. It has been my choicer! It could be yours ... if the spirit moves you!
