We have been raking demand for giving Bharat Ratna to Dhyan - TopicsExpress

We have been raking demand for giving Bharat Ratna to Dhyan Chand, hockey wizard, but doing little to revive the Hockey in India. When the senior hockey team was once again building upwith medals in its kitty, the Chief coach Terry Walsh has resigned. This is slap in the face of Babus who operates through files and not ground reality. Wash has expressed his disgust on the bureaucratic style of those dealing with sports. This is not the first time. Earlier, I remember, Charlesworth had quit in similar circumstances. It was time to prepare for the Olympics and make corrections from the experiences of commonwealth and Asian games, though we struck medal. Sportspersons say government is spending more Sports Authority of India (SAI) than sports itself. For almost two decades there is demand to create three-tier preparation (school, university and national level) for better hunt but no real effort has been made. Similar is the situation with other indoor sports and also athletics. It is time each and every state must identify at least three sports which they will develop and hunt for the talents. For example,in Bihar though we are spending a lot on coaching Judo-karate to girls, but that is confined to ‘self defence’ rather than grooming from them for national competition. Some retired players right from Billiards to cricket and from football to volleyball must sit together and make a vision plan. That can be presented in Parliament in leadership of Sachin Tendulkar, a Rajya Sabha member. The last two games, football and volleyball for time immemorial have been played down to the village level but we have not made the footprints at international level. What happened to PAYAKA, a UPA govt scheme of encouraging sports at panchayat level? Is money going down the drain? After all this segment also deserves Achche Din….!
