We have been thinking about the last several posts written about the shelter, one by us and one relative to the experience of the person who visited with, and utimately adopted Bentley the cocker spaniel. Both experiences are new posts on our facebook page. We feel the need to direct some frustration and anger at the shelter staff and probably the interim executive director Mrs. Stimack. Wed also like to grab the attention of Doug Rae, incoming executive director, who we hope looks at this facebook page and not just the shelters. During yesterdays visit, we saw one volunteer working doing clean up while a group of staff people hung around the front desk doing what we can only assume was socializing. There were many dogs in the kennels, the majority of them new, based on the paperwork attached to their kennels. Was a staff person spending any time with the dogs, talking to them, petting them, comforting them, exercising them? No. Were there a group of volunteers there doing the same? No. Those dogs were alone, several of them barking, several chihuahua mixes shaking, one of them peeing against the wall in his kennel, a few others curled up in a ball. Why was staff just sitting at the front desk when they could have been spending time with the animals? Where was Tom Cameron, maintenance supervisor? The information the adopter received about Bentley was conflicting and false. What was the real story about his health and vet care before adoption? Which staff person was in charge of that? We are very glad Bentley has gone to a good home and will receive good care; clearly he deserves it. Bottom line: seems the staff has been on a vacation while at the shelter and we expect that will stop with Doug Rae. Enjoy it now staff. Your free time while collecting a paycheck is almost done. If we were you, wed maybe start looking at the Help Wanted ads. If any of you would like to post to our facebook page and refute any of this, wed love to hear from you. If not, well your silence will speak volumes.
