“We have been told since the beginning that we could lose him. We were told in the very beginning that we had a hard decision to make - to lose him now or when he is 5. But, we have chosen to focus on living. We have fought hard to get him here and we couldnt be happier with the care he is receiving.” – Dominic’s mom. Speechless? I was when I first read her email. Then I focused on the most important part of what mom said … “we have chosen to focus on living.” Born 10 weeks premature in August 2013, shortly after his fraternal twin Vincent, Dominic was diagnosed with total colonic Hirschsprungs disease, rendering all of his large intestine and all but 8 cm of his small intestine nonfunctional. He is on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) with lipids - lipids that are damaging his liver. He recently took his first miracle flight with mom to Boston Childrens Hospital where he is taking part in the Omegaven clinical trial and clinical care management. Dominic also has a 5 y/o brother (Jaxon) and 3 y/o sister (Ruby). Mom tells us that he’s a really laid back and happy guy, full of smiles and giggles, and loves when his big sister’s dolls dance!
