We have been trying from the beginning to promote responsible pet - TopicsExpress

We have been trying from the beginning to promote responsible pet ownership and guide pet owners to the rights & wrongs when feeding treats and types of food. Always our food has included a high quality food mixed with a lower grade food to come up with a happy medium. But when it comes to treats it is a bit tough. Treats from China are bad, but at the same time other foods and treats contain chemicals such as propylene glycol an additive in antifreeze. Which is as bad but is still being allowed to be sold. We have already taken Beneful and Kibbles n bits off our list of items we accept. And many treats end up in the trash. We hate to do that but in the end we have to take responsibility for the food & treats we pass out! Soon we will be looking into a program that will allow us to purchase low grain and grain free dog & cat food at cost which will allow us to ensure a healthy outcome on our end and a steady supply of food! But we also have to consider once a family leaves our program or runs out in between pantry days they are more likely to purchase a dollar store bag of generic food leading to digestive upset. So we wonder what is the best road to take! So we ask would you rather donate to the food fund to ensure a quality food is being given out or donate whatever items you have or purchase? Ready set comment!
