We have had a great start to the New Year, Lucky has recovered from her mystery illness!!! Her blood work finally came back with a result, salmonella. We suspect she picked it up during one of her walks through the forest and her inquisitive wandering trunk will be under close guard from now on! It has been a stressful time for all the staff, Lucky has a special place in our hearts! She has been with us since she was only 6 months old and has been hand raised to become a beautiful and often cheeky teenager. She is our ambassador elephant and has touched the lives of many tour guests, children and visitors. Our keepers and vets have done an amazing job caring for her health, both physically and emotionally! They slept onsite every night, asked us to bring her favorite fruits from town and even gave her a massage one night when her legs seemed weak. Our gentle positive abuse free training methods allowed us to easily take samples and give medications as needed. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and support, and to our tour guests for their understanding of the changed schedule. We are so happy to have her healthy again!
