We have just launched an Open Call for Guatemala Después in partnership with Ciudad Imaginación, soliciting collaborative artistic concepts (due Sept 1st) for the planned exhibitions next year. After several workshops hosted in Guatemala in July, and feedback from participants weve prepared some criteria and guidelines for submissions. Please share with anyone interested ... Guatemala Después (beyond) is a collaborative project that seeks to support site-specific artistic investigations that may reveal, activate, provoke or transform the ways in which we understand historic memory, repression, healing and forms of utopia or dystopia emerging in Guatemala in the past 30 years (and now). It also critically examines the political, economic and cultural influences (including foreign policy, migration and creative exchange) between the United States and Guatemala. The project seeks to devise an experimental, inclusive and participatory approach towards engaging creative practitioners and the general public using multi-disciplinary forms of investigation and expression (including visual, sound, film, performance, poetry and narrative) in a few key urban or rural sites of interest across Guatemala. We hope the resulting outcomes will critically engage a wider spectrum of artists, practitioners, students and “publics” both locally and abroad in collectively examining and exchanging artistic practices and emerging perspectives on Guatemala Después. The project will culminate into works represented in an online digital platform, site-specific public engagement, and exhibitions hosted at Ciudad de la Imaginación in Xela, Guatemala and The New School, New York City from April-June 2015.
