We have lived in the milieu of Christian morality for so long that many contemporary atheists and secularists assume that much of that morality - murder is bad, honesty is important, protecting the defenseless, etc.. - is natural to human beings. Richard Dawkins and his ilk imagine their comfortable, European, bourgeois values would endure in a purely materialist, post-Christian world. And yet, such values did not exist before Christianity except in the ivory towers of intellectual barons - the stoics, Confucianists, and the like. In fact, where Christianity has little influence they do not exist now. What my secular friends will discover as we progress into the secular future is that God may be dead but the devil is very much alive. I miss Nietzsche. -- Fr. John Cox
