We have more sad news tonight. Bob Aslin, a WWII hero and father of our volunteer Bill Aslin, passed away yesterday at the age of 91. Bill wrote to us: The Honor Flight trip that he and I were able to share September 2010 had an enormous impact on my life and his. I have been honored to volunteer for SSHF since that 2010 flight. When I first told him that I planned to sign him up, he hesitated and told me that it was for the other, more deserving guys. Gladly, he finally accepted his spot for the trip and cherished every aspect of it. During my fathers final moments, I had the Honor Flight movie playing in his room. (It was) fitting that the section of the movie that was playing was the mail call and homecoming. He is shown during that portion of the movie reading his mail call letter from my wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Aslin family and friends as they say goodbye to their (and our) hero.
