We have officially filed to be a candidate for Zone 5. This is going to be a hard battle, but when we win we will be able to work with other board members to bring real change to this district. We are going to have to work on the following (among many other things): 1. We have to bring accountability to the budget process. 2. We have to make sure we have a teacher created and teacher driven curriculum. The most important player in the education of our kids continues to be the teachers. 3. We have to make sure our curriculum is taught equitably across the district. 4. We have to start listening to our experts in the classrooms and in the district and stop listening to the bloated-overpaid bureaucracy. To do this, we must have a Board that understands its role as the democratically elected representatives of the district. We have to have a Board that is willing to do what its policy says and get involved in the finances, policy making, and program selection for our kids. Right now we do not have that, but I am committed to fighting for every family in our district. These really are our schools.
