We have our candles lit and our hearts reaching out today, for Holocaust Memorial Day. We remember the people who were murdered in the concentration camps and as we do so something deeper is realised for the present - blogger Vin Paul explained it well in what he wrote today, for jpost: Social media allows us to have a voice in the wider community; we can reach the whole globe. This world is now so much smaller. Use your voice, use it for good. Contrary to what we witness day after day on the news bulletins, I still believe that good can triumph over evil. Regrowth follows a forest fire. Out of devastation new growth springs up, hope does indeed spring eternal. January 27th is a day for memorial; it is also a day for hope. Good triumphed over evil. With this in mind we would like to share this video with you, of an inspirational, optimistic and joyful lady whose book A Century of Wisdom we discovered years ago via the Llandeilo based book club, Cygnus Books. Alice Herz-Sommer is the concert pianist who lived to 110 years old as the oldest Holocaust survivor and as a testament to what the human spirit can accomplish and overcome. As well as remembering the atrocities that happened, today we remember those who survived and thrived with love and optimism.
