We have partnered with the Swiss Federal Office for Migration (FOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR on a campaign to foster a more positive perception of #refugees in Switzerland. Between 01 January 2014 and 30 October 2014, a total of 20,540 persons have filed an asylum request in Switzerland. Within the same time period, 4,984 persons have been granted refugee status, including 1,889 of Eritrean and 742 of #Syrian nationality. Yet, the general public’s image of refugees and #migrants is often an unbalanced, predominantly negative one; a perception based on uninformed assumptions and stereotypes. The videos produced by the FOM, UNHCR and IOM aim at fostering a more positive image of refugees and at highlighting refugees’ important contribution to Swiss society. The videos feature Mano Khalil, a Syrian Kurd, and Tadesse Abraham, originally from #Eritrea, both currently living in #Switzerland. One of them won an important Swiss Film Award in 2013, while the other holds the record of the fastest marathon ever run in Switzerland. The video (in French, Italian and German) are being screened in train stations, cinemas and post offices all over Switzerland - their message is one of tolerance for refugees and of appreciation of the skills and talent they bring.
