We have received a number of letters to the editor in the past - TopicsExpress

We have received a number of letters to the editor in the past several days and felt the need to explain why they will not be posted to the Carson Valley Times. The letters themselves are great, well-written contributions to the local political discourse. We appreciate the time taken in creating them and the efforts toward supporting your local candidates and agendas. However, in starting this publication, we made the choice on the front end not to accept letters to the editor for political races and also not to accept political advertising. While the former is a significant source of reader interest and the latter a significant source of revenue, I wanted this to be one of several areas where our publication diverged from traditional media. Its just something we do differently, for the sake of being different. Our thought was that this is the season where you, the reader, tend to get inundated with everything wrong about every candidate out there. There are many fine venues where you can obtain such information, but we have chosen not to be one of them. Our point in this entire endeavor has been to do something different, and in every way we can, thats what we try to do. We can argue politics all day long, or we can focus on the areas where we find common ground. We like to cheat toward the latter, knowing fully the place of importance the former holds in open discourse. I personally apologize for any trouble this might cause, but I did feel it deserved an explanation. We appreciate your thoughts and feedback on this matter. Sincerely, Joey Crandall - CVT editor & publisher
