We have received this information about the proposed show from the MEPBG. At this point the BHS is neither condoning nor condemning either side of the debate as we have insufficient information available to us. We do however have a duty to present both sides of a story and will be actively monitoring developments. “We held a risk assessment meeting on site last night and are very happy with the plans in place. We feel it will be far less traumatic for the mares and foals not used to being handled, to have the comfort of a strong pen, with access to their trailers/lorries, and a wide cordon around the area, which will be situated in a quiet area of this small country show. The show ground is located on the farm of one of our MEPBG members and the ponies exhibited will be local. The mares and foals will be carefully selected and a careful assessment will be made before the show and also prior to them being unloaded from the trailers. We feel this paves the way for enabling the Exmoor moorland farmers to exhibit their stock humanely and with maximum consideration for the mares and foals welfare”
