We have repeatedly been claiming that the only and most important - TopicsExpress

We have repeatedly been claiming that the only and most important resource we do possess is our people. There is an urgent need to assess the relevance of such a statement in todays world.Actually , is there a country in the world where the right human resource is not as important , if not , more important than whatever other resources they possess , including oil ? We therefore have to be extremely careful on our priorities in regards to manpower training and empowerment. One of the major failures of the former government has been its shortsightedness regarding the need to consolidate the emerging sectors of our economy ( IT , Financial services , Freeport ) through the creation of a pool of well trained professionals. During the last 9 years , nothing has been done and just imagine the time and effort it will take now to start everything afresh. However , we have a very committed and fast learning workforce and I am sure that with proper strategy and orientation , we should be able to catch up the time and resources wasted in sectors where they were least required ( ID cards , new terminal building , metro ). The new Government will have to invest massively in manpower training and empowerment in a few sectors that will enable us rebuilt the emerging sectors of our economy. Every country in the world is ensuring that its best brain stays with it and contribute in ensuring the competitiveness of its economy. We can no longer rely on classical sources of trained professionals like India to meet our local needs. We should rather encourage our best brains to stay and even propose schemes to motivate Mauritians abroad with qualification and expertise to return to their homeland.I am sure the Minister in charge of Empowerment and training will devote much time and energy in coming up with concrete proposals in the weeks to come.I am proud to be part of a Government that is made up of a top team that certainly has the capacity to fight the challenges mentioned above. We are all proud of you Sir Aneerood !
