We have some pretty cold air on the way. With cold weather always comes several phone calls for frozen pipes. Even with your heat on, interior pipes along exterior walls and in uninsulated areas of the house can still freeze. Here are a few tips: 1. If there are pipes along garage walls, keep the garage door closed. 2. Keep cabinet doors in bathrooms/kitchens open so that heat can flow to keep the pipes from freezing. 3. Keep your temps up on the coldest days. Older homes in particular can have a hard time getting up to the thermostat temps when it gets very cold. 4. If you have had issues with frozen pipes in the past, consider turning faucets on to a slight drip during the coldest hours. We arent advocates of wasting water, but a small drip can keep the water moving enough to avoid freezing pipes. Be sure to turn faucets off as soon as temps go up again.
