We have some special visitors at Saddles of Joy today. The Caravan came by to camp and visit us for a couple of days, and they are going to stick around, and drive in the parade on Tuesday! Heres more: From November 2014 to March 2015 Michael Muir and Gerard Paagman and the participants of The Caravan will travel 2500 miles through some of the most unforgiving and beautiful landscapes of North America…pounding hooves on untested roadways…personal challenges and extremely personal goals…they will travel on The Caravan. With one foot firmly planted in the present and the other in the past this modern day journey uses old world transportation, horse and carriage and modern communication and social media to tell the world about their travels. This trip holds special meaning for both men. Michael will be driving his horses from a wheelchair accessible carriage. He intends on using this cross-country journey as a training springboard for the 2015 United States Olympic Team qualifier with the intent of competing at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Games in Paralympic Dressage. For Gerard, the trip is the fulfillment of a lifetime dream – to travel with his horses and carriage across a continent and live the experience with his family and reconnect people spiritually and physically with the graceful horse. Along the way they will stop in villages, towns and cities sharing their experience, listening and learning from others. It’s a journey to reconnect people regardless of race, religion, gender or geography through the bond we share with the horse. It’s shifting our focus, if only for a brief moment, away from our smart phones and electronics and opening a window to nature.
