We have some unfortunate news…. it appears there is a strain of kennel cough making its way around town and its hit The Dog Lodge in addition to many other facilities. We had reports a few weeks ago of an older dog who was coughing, but didnt see any signs in anyone else. This week we have had three more dogs reported ill, one of them an employees dog. We hate to convey this type of news but we want to make everyone aware that there may be a heightened risk of your dog getting kennel cough at this time, especially if your dog has been to The Dog Lodge in the past few weeks. We understand your frustration as we all have our dogs there as well. Unfortunately, its a risk we take when using daycare, or any venue in which a lot of dogs are together, such as dog parks. All dogs at The Dog Lodge are current on their vaccinations, but similar to the Flu in humans, different strains are always developing and vaccination manufacturers are always trying to keep up. In most cases, Kennel Cough is not serious and can be equated to the common cold. Some dogs who get it barely show symptoms and many never get it. However, there are dogs who get hit hard and can become seriously ill, particularly younger and older dogs. If your dog does get sick, its best to consult a vet. We are doing, as we always do, everything we can to prevent this, but its a difficult thing to control. Its contracted by close contact among dogs. By the time we see symptoms, its too late, a dog has been infected. We will continue to clean like crazy and keep you updated and hopefully this will be cleared out soon.
