We have to allow the Holy Spirit to develop in us the characteristics that God sees important and not what we, the world, our flesh, or pastor sees as important. We live in a society where wealth, riches, and beauty are sought by millions daily, yet none of these are mentioned by the Holy Spirit in the Bible. What we should be asking God to mature in us is love, patience, kindness, knowledge of Him, self-control, and holiness. These can only grow if we are looking to Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross which will give the Holy Spirit the access to do His work and will in us.
