We have to move beyond our tribal nature and start embracing each - TopicsExpress

We have to move beyond our tribal nature and start embracing each other as members of the same group, because we are. It doesnt matter what your religion, nationality, ethnicity, language, political bent or least of all, skin color is, we are all human beings and no matter what you personally choose to believe, we all came from the same place and will share the same fate. We cant keep fighting because we use different sounds and words to express the SAME hopes and fears. We cant keep seeing each other as separate or as a threat to each others existence. We have to be the ones who end this cycle of perpetual and escalating mistrust and violence. Talk to someone who looks completely different from you. Befriend those outside of your usual circle. Get to know and appreciate those who speak differently, worship differently or call God a different name, or dont claim a God or faith at all. I promise you, all the differences we perceive are wholly superficial and we ALL crave to love and be loved, to appreciate and be appreciated, to protect and feel protected. In the light of what happened in Ferguson, I dont have enough information to condemn or praise. I have my gut instinct, but thats not enough for me to add more fuel to the fire on one side or the other. I just hope the unrest will be short lived and we use these horrible moments to learn, grow and be better to each other. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
