We have too many experts. Maybe I should say we put too much faith in people ONLY because they claim to be experts. Science, like the arts, has ALWAYS had trouble getting funding. Consider Mozart for a TOTALLY nonpolitical example. But the instruments he needed were cheap compared to what science needs. SEE CERN. In steps the collective, the government, whatever name it answers to in your "nation". The elite ones who take the fruits of your labor for redistribution, and to make certain that any crisis gets extended, so that the need for government gets extended. Real scientists - but they have to pay the bills too. And how long can anything remain pure when it only gets to eat from corruption? For a historical perspective, and a damn good read, let me recommend Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time by Dava Sobel. Britain held out a hefty purse to the man that could solve the problem of Longitude. Come to think of it, I lent my copy out, and know not where it resides. Need to replace that, I think. Have a good weekend guys.
