We here at the Family Life Center are very much aware of and involved in the discourse and the disagreements surrounding the NYSALM Birth Center Bill. As a member of NYSALM and a local homebirth midwife whose thesis was basically a needs assessment for a local birthing center, I am in support of the NYSALM bill. I do not, nor does the Family Life Center, support the petition being circulated by the NYS Alliance of Birth Centers. I would hope that any concerned citizens gather all the facts and have any questions answered by any local member of NYSALM about what this bill says and what it will allow, as we move the political process forward toward midwife-run birthing centers in New York. Only by being truly informed and communicative can we build the best coalition to bring the probability of midwife-run Birth Centers to all our communities in NY.
