We hire accountants, lawyers, doctors, mechanics, landscapers, etc - TopicsExpress

We hire accountants, lawyers, doctors, mechanics, landscapers, etc - and we know exactly what we expect from our experts, the job gets done, we pay them, and we call them again when we need them (if they did a good job). If they didnt do a good job, we call someone else next time. But this other team of experts we pay EVERYday no matter what, and we never hold them accountable. Theyre the people we hire to run our government. Maybe the thing that makes me keep such a close eye on these experts is the fact that being self employed, I have always had to write them the check every quarter. And it pisses me off when they do a bad job and I cant even call someone else in to replace them. The taxes collected on an average employee have to be 35% or more. In Ohio, I paid out as an employer: the matching 7.65% for FICA (social security and medicare), another 4-6% for OBES, SUTA, FUTA, and BWC. Then on my paycheck I paid out 7.65% FICA, and around 30% for state and federal income tax. At one point I did the math and found out that between the employee and employer taxes I paid, the government(s) made roughly 53% commission on my work. Also... on the business side: the Commercial Activity Tax, vendors license, and other licenses and fees, and then on the personal side I could mention all the sales tax, real estate tax, vehicle registrations... Damn straight I expect some value for that money. And sometimes I wonder... WHY DO WE WORK FOR MONEY? Im going to start working for eggs. Ill send them the shells.
