We just don’t get it. Sufferings of Christ?! We’ve learned - TopicsExpress

We just don’t get it. Sufferings of Christ?! We’ve learned from the time we were little, both at home and from the materialistic philosophy in our schools that suffering is inherently evil. So a devotional like this one just doesn’t get through our impenetrable paradigm of “a nice self-satisfied life”. Modern psychology is so perverted that talk of “rejoicing” to the extent that we “partake of Christ’s sufferings” is thought to be so “sick” that the Bible is banned from school libraries and classrooms. So when Christ takes us through the muddy slog of internal turmoil we think we need psychological help instead of the dynamic spiritual understanding that transcends our foolish notions of who we are and who we should be by the world’s standards. Oswald says, “He will take you through a number of experiences that are not meant for you personally at all.” But we are so self-centered, following the example of our parents and teaching in school, that we can’t imagine God would “do this to me”, “make me go through this”, to sift the selfish chaff out of our thinking, get us truly centered on Him, so He can build us into a tool He can use at His good pleasure. And Oswald tells us the result of our resistance: “You say, “Oh, I can’t deal with that person.” Why can’t you? God gave you sufficient opportunities to learn from Him about that problem; but you turned away, not heeding the lesson, because it seemed foolish to spend your time that way.” But, he says, “God’s way is always the way of suffering— the way of the “long road home.”” Read for knowledge, pray for understanding, listen to His Spirit for wisdom.
