We just got back from a dinner with a Vietnamese missionary couple - TopicsExpress

We just got back from a dinner with a Vietnamese missionary couple who are members of our church. The couple and their 7 kids escaped Communist Vietnam via a river boat. They took the river boat out to the South China Sea and eventually to the Gulf of Thailand in hopes of defecting to Thailand. Once on the shores of Thailand, soldiers ran them off and they had to reenter the big water. They ended up in Malaysia where they were immediately robbed and had their boat stolen. They eventually ended up in a refugee camp where they had to sleep in mosquito ridden conditions on the top of a trash dump. After a few days the refugee camp leaders handed out things to read. The mother had noticed that one book was left and grabbed it. The book was a New Testament. The New Testament was in Vietnamese! She and her husband read the Bible and became Christians. I dont know the rest of the story of how they ended up in America, but here in America they have a ministry that builds churches and supports evangelists in Vietnam. To date, over 20,000 known professions of faith have been recorded through their ministry. No one can know how many people in Vietnam have truly been touched by the gospel nor how many will. To hear her tell the story in person was fascinating. She cooked a great meal for us tonight too. She said she had always been looking for God and then God found her.
