We just got back from vacation and picked up our girl Sammi from Outbound Hounds and Handsome Dans Rescue. Read the story. What you dont see in the story is the first time Ocean and Sammi met, we thought Sammi was going to attack Ocean. We first met Sammi, who is on her FOURTH home (third since her rescue) when her parents enlisted my help for private training to work on her dog-dog aggression and leash reactivity, which was severe. Sammi and her parents did their homework and their work payed off. She then participated in our Reactive Dog class where she learned how to feel more comfortable on leash in close proximity to other dogs. Sammi has spent the last ten days at our home. Mark worked each day to see if he could get Sammi to feel comfortable enough around Ocean to be able to be able to safely integrate the girls. Today, on Sammis last day at our home, he felt they were ready to give off leash intros a try. We are very proud of Sammi and the work her parents have done with her. You will see in the video that Sammi is not immediately comfortable in the presence of other dogs, and at the end she did rush in with a little more gusto than we felt safe, so we ended their interaction, but we are confident that they will be able to pick up again in the future. We keep things short and sweet and go slower than slow on our dog-dog intros to be sure everyone stays safe and is moving at the pace best for each individual dog, especially for a complicated dog like Sammi.
