We just had our last meeting of Thurles Templemore Roscrea Council for 2014 which was a very good meeting bar one matter of Disquiet . The meeting was held in Damer House Roscrea. -There was good news announced re Thurles where the park in Loughtagalla is to get an investment in the new year of 40,000 for out door exercise and play equipment etc which I warmly welcome. Thurles swimming pool is to be open by the end of January and not before time. -a contractor has been appointed for the Town Park which should begin in the new year. -Liberty square upgrade is also to begin in 2015. We also afforded our first civic receptions to Borrisoleigh scór na nóg and Colaiste phobial Ros cré. The matter of disquiet I mentioned and I dont want to make a big deal out of it but nonetheless I think the public of Templemore, Thurles and Roscrea and all the areas in between should be made aware of it is this. I had a motion before the meeting looking for the support of the council for the I.R.F.U bid to host the 2023 World Cup in Ireland and the reason I had it at this meeting is because Semple Stadium in Thurles is mentioned as one of the venues but some of my council colleagues refused to discuss it mainly the Fiannia Fail cllrs . I believe it was a disgrace given the fact that this bid has cross party support North and South and the gaa have supported it and everyone else but some of our representatives in This area couldnt allow the matter to be even discussed With the obvious huge potential that this could have for our county and indeed our country and this to happen is outrageous and sends out a very negative message. to say Im fuming is very much understating it but how is ever I will continue as a local rep and supporter of all sport to do my utmost to support this bid and to keep you informed.
