We just worked out the secret to Roman concrete apparently. This is the second time we have uncovered the lost secrets of the ancient Romans. After Rome was sacked by the vandals and the Roman empire finally evaporated, Rome lay in ruins. Religion came to the fore and monks were the only ones who could read or write, primarily to copy bibles. Roman knowledge died even as the monks hoarded the books of the Romans, including maths, law, etiquette, ect. They had no use for that in monasteries as they were not concerned with life on earth, only the after life. Funny thing is Europe descended into a dark age. Most people could not read or write, there was no law and no knowledge of how to build things. Roman knowledge was lost. Imagine a lawless and illiterate land where the people were poor and destitute. Life sucked hard. Over in southern Spain the Arabs had control of the land and they actually kept alive the knowledge of the ancient Greeks. If not for them we would have lost this ability and we most certainly would not have sky scrapers right now or any of modern life.
