We kind of had a mini-discussion about whats being discussed in this article when we talked about the multiverse. I have always personally believed that science would eventually approach a point that we would lack the means to even falsify some hypotheses. For example, the extra dimensions in String theory are so small, we can never falsify this. However, this doesnt mean that it cant be true, but only that we cant be exactly assured that its true. We are in the same position with Alan Guths multiverse secondary to eternal inflation. The article calls for an international conference to address this issue. This somewhat reminds me of when the Kuiper Belt was understood to contain many dwarf planets. It was soon realized that we would either have to keep adding them to our solar system of planets or redefine what is a planet. An international conference was held and it was voted to redefine the term. As a result, Pluto fell victim to the new definition. What is being discussed in this article is far more reaching as many fight to keep the heart of the scientific method intact. Thoughts?
