We know this species to be non venomous but even so cautious as the area we are working in has a few pretty deadly ones including Cotton Mouth and Rattle Snakes .Typically we try and avoid snakes with bright colors . This particular Snake is a Mud Snake and on the bigger end of the scale as Mud Snakes usually grow to a total length of 40 to 54 inches (1-1.4 m),with the record total length being slightly over 80 inches (2 m).The upper side of the mud snake is glossy, black. The underside is red and black, and the red extends up the sides to form bars of reddish-pink.Their heavy bodies are cylindrical in cross section, and their short tails have a terminal spine.
