We learn social skills from our family & friends as we grow up. If we are in an unhealthy family or in real sick relationships: then we will learn incorrect rules about me & life. And I will be missing communication or copeg skills. Besides the wonderfullll healg that God brings: we usually need to learn, practice, & absorb new roles, rules, & beliefs about me, God, family,& life !!! Counselors r good at helpg us in these activities ! I learned to actively listen, stick 2 1 subject, & no bringg up unrelated past events & hurts. I learned, but dont practice, that we should AVOID labelg =name-callg, generalizations (Im always haveg 2 do...), & YOU Statements (U think U r 2 good 2...) U always say that !!! We dont want 2 hold important or hot things inside !!! They will fester, mold, leak out, or boil-over !!! Weather they come out or not hot will hurt friendships & will separate families !!! When Im hurt or thinkg of important things, we need 2 use I statements. !n counseling I learned the Doe, Ray, Mee of interaction : DOE If B happens, dont assume A happened first = be observant = Look at & see reality: RAY Your mind WILL jump 2 a conclusion or assumption. So think about events, people, goals,& relationships b4 u react ! : MEE Dont react fast: just listen or take a Time Out = leave. IF u choose 2 react now, then choose how u will act next in order to meet ur goals & fill ur role in the relationship.
