We left Izmir, Turkey at the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis - TopicsExpress

We left Izmir, Turkey at the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis under odd circumstances. Some uniformed guys just showed up at our apartment and packed us up without any prior notice and practically in total silence. This was the first time we didnt do all the packing and loading ourselves so in a way it was a real treat. Patty Baker-Smiths foot locker photo reminded me of this because I had one just like it the contents of which mom unceremoniously dumped. Today those contents would be worth a small fortune because there were lots of first edition comics and SF anthologies (Astounding! and Analog Science Fact and Fiction) in there. I was talking to her yesterday and reminded her that shed done that. All she said was We didnt have room. Anyway, was it just peculiar to my mom or did all military moms have a propensity for just dumping stuff, especially their kids stuff and never looking back?
