We left Rapid City the day before the Sturgis Rally officially - TopicsExpress

We left Rapid City the day before the Sturgis Rally officially started; we were greeted by hundreds of motorcycles on the interstate. It was fun to watch them ride. We drove for a little over an hour and stopped at the Wyoming visitors’ center. We learned some great tips for traveling the state and they had a “horse” with a Wyoming backdrop so we all took turns getting our picture on it. There were also displays of dinosaurs and other interesting things. The kids even enjoy it. Great stop. Then we were off to Devils Tower National Park; it is about 30 minutes inside the border, and is worth the time to see it. There was no parking at the top for the camper so we had to unhook it at the oversized lot at the bottom then drive up to the entrance. The kids did the Jr Ranger program and we hiked the 1.5 mile trail around the bottom of the tower. It was a nice hike with amazing views from all angles. At one overlook another hiker said, “this tree smells like butterscotch pudding.” Of course then everyone had to smell the tree and it did smell like butterscotch. Mandi and Vanessa then started smelling lots of trees...the rest smelled like trees. Back on the road we drove to Buffalo, Wyoming and camped at Deer Park RV Park. It was a nice campground with a pool, short nature trail, and ice cream social in the evening. They even have cable TV hookups; but our cord was too short to reach from the hookup to the camper. YUCK!
