We lived across the street from them (diagonal) for years when I was young. I can even remember her furniture in the living area (Americana 70s) and to the right of the front entry was the hall to the bedrooms (right? John Zemanek), kitchen tucked to the left of the living room. Formal living to the left of entry? Curb view: garage to the left? And if I press my mind, I see the smile of this dark headed beauty in her 30s named Jeanne Zemanek - that let me into their lives on a daily basis. I was always knocking on her front door. John, Craig and I played in the Texas sun for hours. I was a bit of a tomboy and wanted to just be a part of what those boys were doing, but even then - I thought Sputter was a cutie. Then came Rocky Zemanek. That sweet baby was on my hip as soon as Jeanne would let me. Would have done anything for that child - my first nurturing instincts took seed, thanks to his birth. Jeanne and mom were neighborly, my dad and John Paul were both in the car business. They were family friends. We eventually moved around the corner, growing up took its path for each of us and decades passed and time lost track of that friendship. ThenCameFaceBook with a great reconnect! But there is a small village of people that shapes our thoughts of whats good when we are young...and Jeanne and her family, were most definitely one of mine. Winding Trail had the Questeds, the Kings, Cravens, Schneiders, Fariss, Spencers, Grodas, the Trasks. Then Rustic Gate had the Boxes, Beauregards, Stantons, Ladds, Hydes, Barclays. Not to mention the Thompsons, McCaulleys, Fitzgeralds, McCartys on Collingswood, the Woods, Bourques, McNair/Fentresss, Morrisons, and Robyn Lyns fam on Quiet Hill and then Rustic Rock/Shell Rock? The Riggs, Tilleys, Dingle/Busseys , Clintons, Daviss and Im sure soooo many more Im forgetting. WOW! That was only 4/5 blocks of families...what a great surburbia foundation of memories was Fairmont Park for so many kids? Ive lived several places now, and that subdivision with the central hub of childhood play (in the form of a pool/park) - in a town called LaPorte that is 42 miles from the Gulf of Mexico (how I loved my spring breaks/summers on the beach).... is home for my heart. A genuine thanks to the Fairmont village for the childhood memories that happily skip through my mind. Jeanne, see YOU later...well done on earth.
