We look forward to coming to the Memorial Museum this Saturday, October 25th. Chance is a four-year-old cream retriever and loves kids. He follows in the paw prints of Nikie who was a 120-pound golden retriever trained in Canine Disaster Relief Services. He tirelessly worked on Ground Zero for ten months helping rescue/recovery workers and 9/11 families. He visited over 4,000 children in schools after 9/11. Nikies artifacts are on display in the Museum. We have prepared a special video for the program at the Museum. It features Nikie, his son, Buddy . . . and now Chance, who helps children all over the country through K-9 Disaster Reliefs K-9 for Kids program. Each child attending the Stories & Art Program will receive a special K-9 for Kids pin. This week I will read from a wonderful book Three World Trade Center Was Our Home - - - The cat of two sisters scampered off in the WTC Hotel . . . it has an unexpected happy ending. Their father of these little girls was the General Manager of the Marriott Hotel after it was built in the 1980s. The book has wonderful illustrations. I will also share a personal story about Chance when he decided to play cat and mouse in a hotel by riding elevators eluding security and guests - he had the time of his life to the dismay of dozens of people trying to figure out which elevator floor door he would pop out of . . . and then run to the next open elevator door. This is a wonderful interactive program. Children will be able to hold the type of boots that Nikie wore while he worked. Also, they are given the opportunity to create dog and cat sculptures. It is a fun hour and a good way to be in the Museum. We hope to see you in Classroom 3. As always, 9/11 families and rescue/recovery workers can come to the Museum free of charge. Hope to see you on Saturday - Frank Shane, Director, K-9 Disaster Relief and Service Canine Chance #911Memorial @K_9DR @AnimalBondRadio #911Museum
