We lost Sarge last night, we are heart broken again just a few months after losing Jake.. We will miss Sarge so much, he was a true gentle giant! thats what I always called him, our gentle giant! We rushed him to Columbus late last night when it was clear he was in increasing painful distress, and we wanted to try everything we could to save him. I think it will take some time before we are ready for another dog. When we rushed him down to The OSU Veterinary Hospital ER the verdict was he couldnt be saved, at least not for anything less then $3500.00+. They told us it wasnt our fault and there was nothing we could do any differently that would have hanged things. They said large deep chested dogs like him can twist their stomachs when rolling, much like when a horse twists a gut when rolling! For either animal the pain is excruciating and the surgery very expensive. They told me last night it would be $3-4K for the surgery and I really dont have it, not for this, I wish I did I cant begin to explain how guilty I feel that I couldnt let tht money go for dog surgery so after a very painful talk with the girls, Brooke Breanna Voisard was the only one of them there with me, we called Courtney Christine Voisard and Marisa Marie Voisard, and I had to explain that we had to let go, so we did decide it together that we had to let him go. The pain is devastating. We are devastated, crushed! After losing Jake so recently this feels like too much. I want to thank Angela Rech-Castanien and her daughter Natalie Mosher who rode down the to the ER with us. They were really there for us once the vet had talked to me and I went back and talked to them. OSU VET hospital has comfort rooms where they bring your pet and make them very comfortable while you say goodbye.
