We lost. We organized, we planned, we fought, but at the end of the day, we lost. It is hard to lose after such a long, sustained effort by so many good hearted volunteers. It is hard to look defeat in the face, when for so many weeks, our eyes were on the prize. To my volunteers, I say wow. Above and beyond in all respects in terms of dedication, commitment and integrity. Above and beyond in your passion for the democratic process. I am touched at your dedication and humbled by the generosity of your time, and efforts over the past few weeks. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To those of you who voted for me and expressed your support, I say thank you to you as well. I thank you for your shared vision, and for your time in participating in our democratic process. To know that for many of you, this was a brand new experience, I am honored that you took the time to come out and vote for me. To every single new member that joined up as a Liberal to be able to vote in this nomination process, whether you supported myself, or Ms. Mihychuk, I thank you for taking the time for participating, and if I have not already, I want to welcome you now to the Liberal Party of Canada. The Party that brought us The Canada Pension Plan, Nationalized Healthcare, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to name but a few of the profound and far reaching Liberal policies affecting every single Canadian today. You are now part of a team with a laser focus on showing Canadians the way to a better tomorrow. Get involved. Get passionate about the issues around you, and share your time and skills to help us win the next election in 2015. We need you. My opponent, has now become my candidate in my riding. I openly congratulate Ms. Mihychuk on a well run campaign, and on her victory tonight. I recall now how I had taken her out to lunch the day after I first met her. I told her then that ultimately, this was not about me, nor about her. It was all about getting Stephen Harper out of Ottawa. I told her that whether I was the candidate, or the volunteer in 2015, my focus would remain fixed on that goal. That was true then and it remains true today. I encourage all my supporters and volunteers to take some time, and recharge your batteries. You deserve that. Once you feel restored, please remember that she, who was our opponent, is now our candidate and duly deserves all the support we can muster to bring change to Kildonan St. Paul. She cannot do it alone. Please join with me in supporting MaryAnn, as she begins to carry the Liberal Banner high and proud in our great riding. Our eyes remain on the prize. Sincerely, your friend, Victor.
