We made the decision to spay Winnie. Her surgery will take place - TopicsExpress

We made the decision to spay Winnie. Her surgery will take place at the end of this month. I lost Gretchen kidding this spring and she orphaned two doelings. I knew when I bred her last fall that would be the last time she had kids for us. I planned on leaving her open for the rest of her days, after that one last breeding........We almost lost Daisy at the end of June. I planned that as her last whelping. Im not superstitious, but Im not a risk taker either. Im not breeding Winnie again, because I had already announced that this winters litter would be her last. That is a chance Im not willing to take with this years track record. She was the first girl that had pups for us and launched our breeding program; the mother of Aggie and Daphne and grandma of Reina (Ginni). She is the alpha female on the farm, the enforcer. She is the BEST mother and mentor. Her pups have brought abundant joy to so many, she has made for so many memories in our family and been the beginning of relationships that we would have never had without her. I cant imagine not welcoming any more Winnie/Clifford puppies and having the opportunity to place them into homes and on working farms. It is extremely difficult for me to close this chapter.......
