We make a lot of noise about high PISA scores and tell everybody Finland has a good education system. Yet, just one university (Helsinki) cracks the top 100 – just barely as they come in tied for the 100th place. Aalto University comes in somewhere between 300 and 350. U of Tampere, U of Eastern Finland, and U of Jyväskylä also make it into the top 400. The inescapable conclusion is that if a bright Finnish youngster wants to get a world-class education, she or he needs to do it somewhere else than Finland. This is troubling. Very troubling.
